Rockets Celebrate Homecoming With Dominant 47–0 Win Over Fayetteville

CHAPEL HILL — Homecoming week has long been one of the biggest traditions at Forrest, complete with dress-up days, floats, a community parade and the crowning of the Homecoming Queen. On Friday night, the Rockets added a dominant football performance to the celebration.

Forrest scored 34 points in the first half and its defense pitched a shutout as the Rockets rolled past Fayetteville, 47–0, in front of the Homecoming crowd.

The evening also saw Sadie Smith crowned Forrest’s Homecoming Queen, highlighting a week filled with the traditions that make Homecoming special in Chapel Hill.

Once the game began, the Rockets wasted little time taking control.

Quincy Mitchell opened the scoring with a 12-yard touchdown run at the 10:47 mark of the first quarter, and Isai Garciaadded the extra point for a 7–0 lead.

Mitchell struck again just four seconds into the second quarter, scoring from 13 yards out. Garcia’s kick made it 14–0.

The Rockets then went to the air. Micah Morgan connected with Braden Bourne for a 43-yard touchdown with 10:00 remaining in the half, pushing the lead to 20–0.

Morgan added another touchdown pass at the 5:32 mark, finding Jacob Tincher from one yard out. Garcia’s extra point increased the Forrest advantage to 27–0.

Mitchell provided the biggest rushing play of the night just before halftime, breaking loose for a 46-yard touchdown runwith 2:01 remaining. Garcia converted again, sending Forrest to the locker room with a commanding 34–0 lead.

The touchdown capped a milestone first half for Mitchell, who surpassed 5,000 career rushing yards during the victory. He finished the night with 159 yards and three touchdowns on just 11 carries, averaging more than 14 yards per attempt.

Now another piece of Forrest football history is within reach. Mitchell needs just 85 yards next week to break the school career rushing record currently held by Nick McClendon.

The Rockets continued to add to the margin in the second half. Morgan found Tincher again, this time for a 26-yard touchdown pass with 8:42 remaining in the third quarter, making it 40–0.

Forrest closed the scoring in the fourth when Teegan Warner scored on a four-yard run with 7:20 remaining. Caden Hodgeman added the extra point to complete the 47–0 victory.

Morgan finished the night 9-of-15 passing for 148 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. Warner completed both of his pass attempts for another 23 yards as Forrest finished with 171 yards through the air.

The Rockets were equally effective on the ground, rushing for 192 yards on only 17 carries. Forrest finished with 363 yards of total offense while scoring seven touchdowns.

But on a night when the offense again produced plenty of highlights, the Forrest defense deserves equal billing.

The Rockets kept Fayetteville off the scoreboard for all four quarters and held the Tigers to 168 yards of total offense. Fayetteville managed 132 yards on the ground but just 35 through the air. Grant Todd recorded an interception as the Rockets completed the shutout and kept Fayetteville from mounting a serious scoring threat.

It was a fitting finish to one of the biggest weeks of the school year — a week of dress-up days, floats, the Homecoming parade and the crowning of Sadie Smith as Homecoming Queen, capped by a complete performance under the Friday night lights.

And with Homecoming now in the books, another special moment could be waiting next week as Quincy Mitchell enters the game just 85 yards away from becoming Forrest’s all-time leading rusher.
